Well written Sal. This is pretty much EXACTLY how my diabetes doctor explained it to me the first time. Although people should know that in extreme cases the blood concentration? goes upto 900 beyond which you can go into coma. I was diagnosed first time with a blood sugar concentration on 750.. but with medication and careful eating it rarely goes above 125..

But she is 14 and has a heart murmur so taking her in for all day visits to the vets is very stressful for her now. Thank you for this video. I'm sorry that you lost Buddy. I have a 5 yr old male recently diagnosed, and I'm heartbroken because he was healthy as an? ox just wks before. I'm hoping I can reverse the disease with strict monitoring and strict diet. The vet gave us Lantus insulin, which sounds like a good insulin, though I've read about something called PZI as well. I am so sorry to learn of Buddy's death. He surely looked like? a wonderful pet and it was surely appropriate that he died peacefully in your arms. Your video was very helpful to me when I started testing my cat. Frasier has been off of insulin for 3 weeks after switching him to zero carb canned food and TR with ProZinc according to your diabetic cat protocol. I continue to test him once a day.

Just discovered the FDA recommends not squeezing the finger as it may affect the results, who knew? Apparently massaging the area in advance works well. The video is at the same link as above except replace the last bit: v=SghSbXA4Rjg (see the comments for the rationale). Are these instructions for new health care workers in a clinic? If so, makes sense (but should be wearing gloves); at home I wash/dry hands vs.? alcohol, don't use a bandaid and each lancet is used multiple times (on me only).

dumb video. you can wash your hands with warm soapy water instead of alcohol wipe. you can use a lancet for as many times as you want (recommended 4 times, then it gets dull) don't use a bandaid, if? your finger bleeds afterwards you should be concerned about thin blood. You can wipe your finger on your pants, wash it under water, or hell even lick it off! The most important is wash your finger with a simple thing called water BEFORE you poke it so you get accurate results.

Are you aware that fruits and vegetables are carbs? Your claims are just as bad, and just as ignorant. Anything that tells you low this high that is bullshit. Everyone needs? fat. Just you need it get it from the right source, being good fats from olive oil, avocados, etc. Your body also needs carbs. But they need to be "whole", not refined. And as I said, fruits are carbs, also. Protein wise you need lean meat, chicken or fish. It's foolish to think you can eliminate any of those 3.

@mokugin81 Sadly, the obesity and diabetes problems in our country didn't happen because people filled up on fruits and? vegetables. They happened because of such a high intake of carbs and refined grains. Most people don't understand their choices are what's hurting them. Fructose found in fruits is slowly converted to glucose so it's gradually made available. You are correct about what people should do and I am against most diets including pyramid. It was found that mice on a high fat diet died of cardiovascular diseases. BIG DISCOVERY ! In my opinion MOST of the diet recommendations for type 2 diabetics are insane. The majority of diet recommendations are for between 40-55% of the calories from CARBS. To me, that is similar to a doctor recommending to someone with badly arthritic knees, train for a marathon. I think that if a doctor recommends that type of diet, they must buy into government propoganda or want to? sell a lot of diabetes medication. On a low carb diet you can have normal blood sugar in weeks if not days.

I have almost completely cutout sugar as well. In addition I drink 1 gallon of water everyday. I run 3-5 days per week and lift weights 2-4 days depending on my schedule. With all of that, I have only? lost about 7 pounds in the last 2 1/2 months and most of that in the first month. I feel like I should be losing weight faster due to my age and activity level. Could I have some problem like insulin resistance, high estrogen or hypothyroidism?

It's a little hard for me to guess, but my suspicion is even though you're not really overweight, that you have some insulin resistance (because most people over 40-50 have some level of it). That could be causing your liver to put out more glucose into the bloodstream, regardless of what you ate. Keep going and don't worry too much about the numbers yet - sometimes this reverses by itself and sometimes your liver needs? a little help (it's been abused for a while ;-) )

Yes, you are definitely at risk for getting diabetes when you've had gestational... are you vegetarian? Is that why you're not eating meat? I also think that low-fat diets are actually the reason for the diabetes epidemic, and there are many who think that. You crave? sugar, I suspect, because you eat too many carbs... try counting and see. A good amount is about 60 g per day, not including veggies. You apparently ARE eating exactly the amount of calories to maintain your weight, but how do you know your metabolism is working perfectly? Or that? you don't have insulin resistance? Insulin resistance starts years before it shows up on a blood test, the number one indicator of potential problems starting as expanding waistline. All that I (and you) know is that 2700 calories in your body maintains 325 pounds with whatever your metabolism is doing. (Sorry I can't respond longer - they limit it!)

If my body is? not storing the fat I am eating and not making new fat, then the macro nutrients I am eating are being burned in virtually perfect equilibrium to maintain my high body weight. You've confused a few things. Eating 100g of fat doesn't mean you gain 100g in fat ? eating fat doesn't necessarily mean you gain fat. It's all dependent on your metabolism and your insulin resistance. Metabolism much too complicated to do in? the 500 characters they give me to respond, but the old equation of calories in=calories out is finally being disbanded, because of it's inaccuracy, dependent again on the individuals' metabolism.

Okay, stop this. This is nonsense. I am not diabetic. If 30% of my calories come from fat and I eat 2700 calories a day, then I'm consuming about 100g of fat. I weigh 325 lbs and CONTINUE to weigh 325 lbs. If my body is not burning fat, then I should? be gaining 100g per day. That is a kilo of fat every 10 days. That is over 30 kilos per year. But I am NOT gaining weight. I am maintaining 325 lbs. month after month. Virtually perfect body fat regulation. WHY?

Thanks for the quick response. I don't think I'll do the juice? only diet. I have really done well in the last few weeks eating 6 snack meals a day. I eat mostly veggies, eggs, meat, fruit, and nuts. I have lost some weight, but now I still can't sleep. Perhaps I'm not eating enough. I'm 5ft 5in and 180lbs, down from 187 in the last few weeks. I have pretty severe hypoglycemia. I can't sleep at night, and I don't get very tired any more even though I should. I was wondering if its ok for someone that has hypoglycemia to juice veggies only. Yes, high blood sugar can cause that, but you're right - a food intolerance can as well. Just so you know, 20% of diabetics are thin, so you're correct in thinking that? this should be dealt with. No matter where people are, I think we really REALLY need to eat way less carbs than we are. Like about 60g a day...

Wow this is fantastic! Thank you! I've been wondering for some time if I am diabetic because of how tired I get. But I am 6' 1" 148lbs. Does high blood sugar cause the heart to race (like after eating waffles with (natural) maple syrup? Or is that more of an indication that I may have celiac due to the wheat (another mystery for me)? A month ago I was regularly waking up after 2 or 3 hours of sleep in a hot sweat and having to get rid of fluids. Could that be diabetes? Insurance starts July 1!?

Starches and carbs? are the same thing, and I DO mention that fruit is a problem - I definitely think we eat WAY too much, in all forms. Thank goodness the food pyramid is gone finally!
