I guess it depends what kind of difference, if it's something that doesn't affect you much and it's easy to? live with being different can be a good thing, but if ithe difference is something that affects you more, even physically painful like hypersensitivity it's understandable that some of us want to be rid of it, I won't say 'be normal' because I think everyone's idea of being normal is different, in that case nobody is truly normal and shouldn't judge others by their standards

@owlcu Hardest thing for me is to maintain relationships. I dont really have any friends. This because relationships are not one-way streets: both parts have to maintain a relationship or else it wont work. Im really? terrible at maintaining, and thus: the ones that have a potential of becomming my friend, will simply slip away because they don't understand me or don't think Im interested in them (or in being social).

every one is different and unique. People can decide whatever they want for themselves as long as it makes them happy. People who are happy know what they want out of life and others tend to follow them. We are all in this life together and separately trying to make it. ?

I have such an opposing view. If I had the choice to stay as I am now or become 'normal', I would choose normal in a heartbeat! But I guess its all about context. There is a huge gape between someone who is just quirky? or eccentric and someone who has something fundermentally wrong with their brain, body or personality.

They possess feelings of love and joy? but most importantly, they feel a strong sense of confidence and pride when they achieve their goals and that's what Asperger's Syndrome is all about, the overcoming of difficulties and the satisfaction of accomplishment.

Asperger's Syndrome is a mild form of Autism, it has nothing to do with Mental Retardation, don't ever let anyone tell you different. You'll never find Asperger's Syndrome on any "forms of Mental Retardation" lists. I've noticed many people are under the assumption that sufferers of Asperger's Syndrome don't have feelings which couldn't? be more far from the truth. How do you explain the emotional vulnerability and the deep sense of sadness they feel?

Thank you, I think thats admirable,? and mentioning modern wastelands like Facebook in this documentary drives home a much more depressing point. Those relationships are shallow fruitless and empty. I kind of think they're helping to screw up society. Life from our perspective (social exstensively) has for most of time been the norm.

You never get? throught though. You never do. You just wish you did. Im always at the "Almost there", but not quite there, never there. Just when you thought that youve won them over and they actually like you, you go blow it by showing the weirdo in you coming out.

I'd say it only becomes a problem if you would like to meet more people but dont suceed. Then you get lonely. You fantasize about how it could be if you could get to know people better, and them getting to know you. Can get very depressing.. If you're alone alot and like to be alone, and don't waste thoughts on other people (because physics is? alot more fun anyway ;) you dont get that kind of problems I guess. You're not constantly tormenting yourself

yeah, I take your point. But isn't loneliness an emotion, isn't it an emotional response to the state of being alone. so if you say that it doesn't bother you to be alone then you are not lonely :)? Yeah agree with you, I think people do a lot of things with the best of intentions not realizing that just because the majority of society function in a certain way doesn't mean that that is the right way or the one way to go about things. the rules of society are so abstract sometimes

This is really depressing and strange. I like to be on my own and I have only a couple of truley close, good friends who I? love SO much. And guess what? They're all I need! Just because you like to be alone or you're not a social butterfly doesn't mean you are miserable.

@MrSexyGeek I think if someone asks about it, and you are honest and say you have Asperger's and explain it, people will understand. There SHOULDN'T be a stigma about having autism- there's nothing wrong with autistic people, they're just different. Everyone is different! I go to college w/ a guy who is autistic- he was upfront about it, and everyone has? been 100% kind and understanding.
