Is he ignorant? What does he think "out in the open" means? in this context? I mean, if he means, "When a bill is introduced, we know about it and the steps it goes through as the steps are taken", I agree. But does he really think that EVERY SINGLE bill that's proposed by a LIBERAL or DEMOCRATIC legislator was TOTALLY 100% from that person's head? In a lot of cases, no. This addition extends protection to gays and illegal immigrants (two groups of people who Republicans can't stand). So that's part of the reason. Another? reason they are against the act is because of the money involved. Perhaps they feel like this funding, like funding to education, can be slashed to make room for tax cuts in the budget. As a smoker myself I've seen taxes go up on cigarettes year after year. The reason why is that smokers are an easy target, all they have to do is say "we can raise property? taxes or raise taxes on smokers." Guess what option is always chosen. If you wanted to actually make a difference in the number of smokers, move tobacco onto the narcotics schedule (it would be classified as a schedule 1 narcotic btw, highly addictive and no medical use). There's no line-item veto. He didn't veto squat. He made a SIGNING statement saying that his administration wouldn't accuse, deny trial and? hold indefinitely Americans in his administration. It's non-binding. Not an executive order, but an opinion. Obama has attacked whistleblowers, gone to make war without congressional approval, and signed a treaty with Afghanistan without Senatorial approval. He gives not a rat's ass about the law.
