Usually a good parent will often set a time alone with his 8 year old kid talk to him about life, about, people, art, places, skills... even tho he knows the kid can't comprehend it yet. . but years pass and suddenly he has all this "real-talk" database to draw from and use it as best he? can to gain an edge, suddenly it all falls into place and context. If you wait to 14,15,16 he's gonna have all these hormones raging inside, he may dismiss stuff outright. .

Here's a useful thought: Mozart wouldn't have done what he did as an adult unless his ambitious dad had made him learn the hard and unavoidable discipline of the piano at a very early age. Give kids? a head full of hard-to-learn tools and leave "creativity" to them. This is the opposite of what Ken advocates.

Gall-Peters projection sucks. The lines on the Mercator tell the story? of distortion so it is not all that bad. While area is not preserved, shape is. Mercator is not the best, but Mollweide, Waterman and the aforementioned Polyhedral projections are better alternatives than Gall-Peters. Why the hell is it even called Peters? Should just be called Gall.

I always thought I was alone, thinking "Changing Of The Guards" was one of Dylan's greats. Glad to see I'm not. Patti's cover is amazing. Especially after her unhappy "Smells Like Teen Spirit." You ought to check out Paul Anka's? cover of "Teen Spirit." It's a hoot. He swings it like it was born to be swung, the melody as bouncy as a tumbler. Her version here, broods, and weaves, as sonorously as "Dancing Barefoot."

I love Bob's and Patti's versions about equally, and yes I like both "Street Legal" and "Twelve", although most fans of these artists I have spoken to do not? care for either! Oh well each to his or her own. That's Patti's daughter Jesse doing backing vocals :) And I love this photo of her in the white dress - beautiful angel :)

Woweee! Everybody always thought I was crazy for loving Street Legal--even most Bob geeks think it's kind of crappy, like Vegas Bob. It was always one of my 2 or 3 favorites though, and this song being the best. She does a fantastic job at this, rivaling Bob, but with a totally different feel. First time I've heard it.? Now, of course I have to listen to Bob's.

Over time, though...you could see the deterioration in her appearance. ..and this much before her illness (very sad). However--after returning from 'Nam in Aug of '69--I avoided their Concerts. Never able to sit back and enjoy--unless protesting the War Took to GRATEFUL DEAD Concerts instead--music and more music. And--w/ HELLS ANGELS everpresent, NO PROTESTS!

The 60's were not perfict. The musicality of the performers was generally better than it is today. Today if you go to a concert there is a heck of a lot of lipsync. You are listening to a recording, and if it is live, there is a lot of autotune. Not all, but most are? like that. In the 60's they didn't have that kind of tecnology. It was all live because it had to be. That part WAS better.
